THE NATIONAL DEBT
As it's name implies, this is a program dealing with rather large
numbers. It will accept two 60 digit numbers and come up with a
120 digit answer. Sometimes, you just want to know what 2 to the 40th
power is exactly. Maybe, you'd like to see if a division gives a
(fairly short) repeating decimal.
It will chain calculations and multiply two numbers as long as
their total length is less than 120 digits. If they are longer and
the first has decimal points, it will be truncated. With just a few
changes it could be made to calculate almost any length number.
The source code is included. This is an example of how not to
write a program. There was very little planning ahead, and many
patches to the shortcomings. It is still only 6036 bytes as opposed to
the Commodore calculator's 7996.
Thanks to the public domain programs DME by Matt Dillon, a68k by
Charlie Gibbs and Blink from the Software Distillery.
I don't think it's worth copywriting. Anybody with any comments,
